Born in Kanchipuram, Mohan migrated to Madras at an early age and debuted at age 16 in the 1944 film Harichandra as P. U. Chinnappa's son. However, most of his successes were in the late 1970s and 1980s when he acted as a comedian alongside stars such as Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth. His first movie Harichandra when he was just 16 years old. However, he could get famous only in 70s and 80s when he took the form of a comedian. He had acted with many popular heroes of Tamil film industry including Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan. He got a break after his performance in the movie Rosappoo Ravikaikari in the year 1979 and then he went on to perform in more than 1000 movies. He had also acted in movies of various languages such as Bhojpuri, Hindi, Tulu and Marathi. The Government of Tamil Nadu honored him by presenting him with Kalaimamani award in 2000. His last film was Azhagi in 2002. After that his health did not allow him to continue his acting career. He has a son named Karthik and Loose Mohan filed a suit against his son for not taking care of his health. He was suffering from respiratory problems and died on 16th September 2012 at the age of 84.
