V. S. Raghavan Born in Vembakkam village, near Singaperumal Koil near Chengleput, where he spent early part of his childhood, later for three years he lived in Mylapore neighborhood of Chennai, and studied at the P. S. High School. Subsequently he studied at St. Columbus Higher Secondary School, Chengalpattu, followed by two years in Madras Christian College, Chennai. However, as he finished his school the death of his father prompted his mother to shift from native village to move to Vellala Street in Purasawalkam, Chennai where his elder sister lived. He died on 24 January 2015
He started his active career as a journalist in the year 1942. He worked as the sub-editor of Malathi magazine till it was closed. Later he shifted to printing press. It was during this juncture when he joined amateur theatre plays as a stage actor. Many of his colleagues were engaged in stage plays and thus Raghavan too, became a part of it. He acted in YMIA’s play Vairamalai, and he was casted for the same role, when the play was made on silver screen, marking his big screen debut.
