Vidyu Raman was born to Mohan Raman, an Indian Tamil film and Tamil television actor and Padma. She did her schooling in Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School and later went to MCTM Matriculation, where she developed an interest for theater and acting. She gained her popularity doing stage productions during her college years at MOP Vaishnav College, where she graduated with a degree in Visual Communication. She later appeared in productions with theatre groups such as Landing Stage, Madras Players and Evam which gave her critical acclaim. She has had 7 years of theatre experience. Her cousin Gitanjali is married to leading Tamil film maker Selvaraghavan. She made her debut in Gautham Menon's 2012 bilingual films Neethaane En Ponvasantham and Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu. The actress has since played pivotal roles opposite N. Santhanam in Sundar C's Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru, Malini 22 Palayamkottai and the Telugu film Ramayya Vasthavayya. She was seen in minor roles in both Jilla and Veeram. She also did a pivotal role in Suriya starer "Masss" directed by Venkat Prabhu. Vidyu in an interview said that her biggest role model is none other than "Aachi" Manorama and takes a great deal of inspiration from her.
