The family moved to Chennai in his childhood. His school and college education were completed at Chennai. He joined film industry as an assistant director and for the first time, he worked with directors, Nassar and Natraj during 1990’s. He has also assisted Saran and K. It was the highest grosser Tamil movie in 2003 and one of the earliest hits of Vikram. Vikram played the role of a sincere police officer and Trisha was paired opposite to him. This movie was also noticed for its beautiful songs. In 2004, two movies - Kovil and Arul were released. Both received good response from critics as well as audience, thus establishing his career as a successful director.
